Engineering Geology

This field, although related to geotechnical engineering, is a separate and distinct specialty. Geologists assess seismic hazards such as landslides, are charged with mapping earthquake faults, and are responsible for describing rock strata. Whereas soils are typically the realm of the geotechnical engineer, rocks are the forte of the engineering geologist. A geologist makes use of aerial photos, topographic and geographic features, levels and transits to ply their trade. Geologists also play an invaluable role in environmental engineering and hydrogeology. Geology has been an inextricable part of AES’ success since its inception.
